{"id":142,"date":"2011-09-02T21:58:19","date_gmt":"2011-09-02T21:58:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amaronetours.it\/?p=142"},"modified":"2018-11-12T21:44:52","modified_gmt":"2018-11-12T20:44:52","slug":"2011-a-vintage-to-remember","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amaronetours.it\/2011-a-vintage-to-remember","title":{"rendered":"2011, a vintage to remember"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cross fingers, touch wood, or iron if you are in Italy.<\/p>\n<p>Italians are very superstitious, wine makers and wine lovers do not want to say it loud, afraid that something could go wrong in the next couple of weeks, but <strong>2011<\/strong> is going to be one of the <strong>greatest vintages<\/strong> in recent years in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amaronetours.it\/index.php\/verona_wine_regions\/valpolicella\/\"><strong>Valpolicella<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spring<\/strong> and <strong>early<\/strong> <strong>Summer<\/strong> were <strong>rainy<\/strong>, letting vines developing an abundant foliage that provided nourishment to bunches.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Second half of August<\/strong> in the whole <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amaronetours.it\/index.php\/verona\/\">Verona<\/a><\/strong> area was<strong> extremely hot<\/strong>, one of the hottest in the past decade. Nevertheless, because of previous rains, soil provided moisture to vine deep roots and bunches rapidly developed high sugar content.<\/p>\n<p><strong>End of August<\/strong> and <strong>beginning of September<\/strong> are now still <strong>dry and warm<\/strong>, but with <strong>nice breezes<\/strong> and <strong>cooler nights<\/strong> that are helping developing a good <strong>acidity<\/strong> inside the berries.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>perfect combination<\/strong> of the <strong>right weather conditions<\/strong> at the <strong>right time<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In Valpolicella tension is perceivable in the air. There are tracks running back and forth from cellars and vineyards, transporting wooden or plastic crates that are washed and laid neatly along the vine lines. Fermentation vets are being emptied, bottling or putting in barrels the last few liters of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amaronetours.it\/index.php\/wines\/valpolicella\/\"><strong>Valpolicella<\/strong><\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amaronetours.it\/index.php\/wines\/amarone\/\"><strong>Amarone<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>harvest<\/strong> of <strong>white grapes<\/strong> have already started in some areas such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amaronetours.it\/index.php\/verona_wine_regions\/soave\/\"><strong>Soave<\/strong><\/a> or <strong>Custoza<\/strong>, and even in <strong> Valpolicella<\/strong> there are few vineyards where they are already picking the first bunches even if the harvest will be at his peak in Valpolicella only in two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the process of <strong>making<\/strong> <strong>Amarone<\/strong> is long and complicate and everything has to be perfeclty done in order to have the best wine, but having <strong>excellent grapes<\/strong> is the first and most important step in the production of a <strong>memorable wine<\/strong>.
